MUSIC Therapist in Fair Oaks, California
Missy Lees, MA, MT-BC
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
I believe music helps us connect with important aspects of our identity that we cannot always access through words alone. I am a board-certified music therapist with a master’s in music therapy from New York University and a bachelor’s in psychology from UCLA.
Music therapy does not require any past musical knowledge or experience. Through practicing music psychotherapy, I invite clients to engage in creative self-exploration, self-expression, and mindfulness through music listening, instrument play, art, guided imagery, and/or songwriting, based on their individualized interests and needs.
Are you feeling disconnected from yourself or the life you imagined?
I aspire to treat the whole person, and I integrate a variety of therapeutic modalities, such as music therapy, DBT and ACT, through a trauma-informed lens. I work with people who experience depression, anxiety, mood disorders, substance use disorders, PTSD, eating disorders, and with clients and/or families coping with adjustment reactions to medical illnesses, including cancer and aging.
I am also passionate about working with the LGBTQIA+ community, neurodivergent individuals, and supporting those looking to realize their full potential and experience meaningful, personal growth through creative modalities that promote mental health and well-being.
